Pakistan student arrest for AI-assisted poisoning plot
Overview
A 17-year-old student in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, was arrested for an alleged attempt to poison his father. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) took the suspect into custody following reports of suspicious digital activity and chemical-related searches.
Investigators state the teenager used the AI chatbot Claude to research lethal substances, such as methanol and abrin, and sought advice on how to administer toxins. The suspect reportedly established a small home laboratory, an activity allegedly inspired by the television series ‘Breaking Bad’.
During the investigation, authorities seized various chemicals, including ethylene glycol, hydrochloric acid, and potassium hydroxide, as well as an iPhone 15 Pro Max. The NCCIA is conducting forensic investigations to analyze the specific AI-generated responses and the nature of the chemicals procured from domestic and international sources.
