Overview

Pakistan and Türkiye have deepened their strategic and defense relationship through high-level diplomatic and military coordination. Following a landmark defense agreement signed on August 7, 2026, between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye—which established a collective security mechanism stating that aggression against one member would be considered aggression against all three—ministers from Pakistan and Türkiye have engaged in discussions regarding regional security.

These discussions include coordination for the Regional Four (R4) foreign ministers meeting in Istanbul, a framework involving Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt designed to promote stability and consult on regional crises.

Furthering this cooperation, Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler has characterized Pakistan as an “inseparable part of our spiritual geography” and a strategic partner. Military cooperation remains a central pillar of the relationship, encompassing joint training exercises, personnel exchanges, and the sharing of experience across defense, security, and technology sectors.

Reinforcing these ties, Minister Güler recently emphasized the deep military, economic, and technological cooperation between the two nations during a reception in Ankara for Pakistan’s Defense and Martyrs’ Day. He described Pakistan as a vital strategic partner within Türkiye’s “heartland geography.”

Expanding on the significance of these trilateral ties, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli recently described the ‘Mecca Agreement’ involving Türkiye, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia as a “historic opportunity.” Bahçeli suggested that this arrangement could position Türkiye as a “central leader in the Islamic world.”
