Palermo disability policy push

The autonomous trade union Sinalp Sicilia formally asked Palermo’s municipal administration, the Metropolitan City, the local health authority and civil‑society groups to set up a permanent working table on disability. The union framed the request as a non‑political effort to simplify support access, strengthen education and care services, and create an observatory to monitor policy implementation.

Later that day, a disability forum organized by the non‑profit I Diritti dei Più Fragili APS gathered regional and city officials, NGOs, and families. Participants highlighted the high cost of Applied Behavior Analysis therapy for autistic children and long waiting lists in public facilities, urging concrete measures to broaden access, cut bureaucratic delays and mobilise community resources. Both events underscored a coordinated push for clearer, more responsive disability policies in Palermo and its province.
