Palestinian representation at Avante! Festival

Overview

The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) initially invited representatives from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (FPLP) to participate in the Avante! Festival. The PCP rejected the classification of the FPLP as a terrorist organization by the European Union and other entities, asserting that its international relations are not governed by criteria from those it deems to lack credibility.

However, for the 50th edition of the festival held in Seixal, the PCP announced that the FPLP would not be present because it had not ‘reunido condições’ (met the necessary conditions). Other Palestinian groups, including Fatah and the Palestinian People's Party, were also noted as absent from the event.
