PAN political appointments in Estado de México
Overview
The National Action Party (PAN) has appointed Enrique Vargas del Villar to lead the party’s ‘Defense of the Homeland, Family, and Liberty’ efforts in the State of Mexico. National leader Jorge Romero Herrera formalized the appointment during the ‘Ahora te toca a ti’ initiative in Huixquilucan to coordinate party activities for the upcoming 2027 elections.
Vargas del Villar, a former senator and former mayor of Huixquilucan, is tasked with focusing on regional governance, security for women, and opportunities for youth and seniors. The designation is viewed as a strategic move to maintain the party’s influence in the municipality, where his wife, Romina Contreras Carrasco, currently serves as mayor.
During political gatherings, Romero emphasized that party goals must extend beyond winning municipal seats to improving living conditions and demonstrating results through governance. Vargas del Villar reiterated the party’s commitment to acting as a ‘responsible opposition’ and defending democratic values.
These appointments are part of a broader organizational push by the PAN for the 2027 electoral cycle. Romero has warned party members against complacency, noting that political opponents will actively challenge PAN-held territories. This strategic coordination in Huixquilucan is part of a wider regional effort that includes recent leadership designations in Querétaro.
