Panama health system expansion

In late July 2026 Panama’s Ministry of Health continued to broaden public‑health capacity. On 27 July a U.S. medical mission under the “Juntos por la Salud” programme deployed roughly 100 specialists to Hospital Nicolás A. Solano, delivering cardiology, speech‑therapy and other services to thousands of patients across 27 facilities. The initiative, jointly led by Panama’s health ministry and the U.S. Embassy, is part of a longer‑term plan that includes a $78 million tender for a new hospital and a maternal‑child centre.

Two days later, on 29 July, the ministry announced a $44.2 million, 49‑month lease of 43 ambulances to strengthen emergency transport nationwide. The fleet will be allocated across 14 health regions, ensuring rapid response capability in both urban and remote areas. Together, the specialist outreach and the ambulance procurement illustrate an ongoing effort to upgrade Panama’s health infrastructure and service delivery.

These actions reflect coordinated domestic investment and bilateral cooperation aimed at expanding access to specialized care and emergency services throughout the country.
