Panama police crime crackdown

Overview

In late July 2026 Panama's National Police continued its nationwide "Plan Firmeza" operations. On 25 July officers in Pilón, Colón Province seized a rifle, ammunition, drug packages, cash and a briefcase of unlicensed pistols and revolvers, while also noting minors drinking alcohol. The seizure was part of a broader effort that has generated hundreds of arrests across the country.

Four days later, on 29 July, police heightened patrols on the Frangipani road between Santa Cruz and Curundú after a surge in vehicle‑theft incidents during traffic jams and floods. A suspect was detained, though formal complaints were lacking. The same "Plan Firmeza" drive reported 539 arrests over a 72‑hour span, underscoring the force's push to deter crime and restore public confidence.

Together, the snapshots illustrate an expanding police campaign targeting both illegal weapons and opportunistic thefts, with a focus on arrests and community reporting to sustain the crackdown.
