This was the fifth monthly record after loads of 4,166.52 MW (July 16), 4,185.11 MW (July 23), 4,195.26 MW (July 24) and 4,203 MW (July 28). Energy Minister Joel Santos attributed the surge to an intense summer heat wave, rapid economic growth and widespread air‑conditioning use. The grid remained stable with no blackouts, while experts warned that continued growth could push peak demand past 5,000 MW before 2030.
At the end of July, the Dominican Republic’s electricity distribution council (CUED) warned families about rising bills and issued energy‑saving advice: maximise natural ventilation, turn off standby devices, shift washing‑machine, dryer and iron use outside the 6 p.m.–9 p.m. peak, use LED or low‑consumption lighting, set air‑conditioners to 24‑25 °C and keep filters clean. CUED said it is reinforcing the network to handle the surge and will continue monitoring the grid for any service incidents.
