Paragliding accidents in Europe
Overview
Recent incidents involving paragliders have been reported in Austria and Switzerland.
In Pruggern, Austria, a 73-year-old German paraglider became entangled in 30kV high-voltage power lines after reportedly misjudging a landing approach. The rescue required specialized aerial equipment and the temporary shutdown of power lines, which caused outages for many households in the Enns Valley. The pilot was transported to a hospital in Schladming.
In Schattdorf, Switzerland, a 63-year-old Swiss paraglider sustained serious injuries after colliding with a cable of the Haldi cable car. The pilot fell from a height of approximately 10 to 15 meters before landing in a meadow. The victim was airlifted to a hospital, and the Uri Cantonal Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
