Paraguay teacher union labor dispute
Overview
Paraguayan teacher unions have become divided following a partial agreement with the government regarding salary increases. Six unions, including FEP, APE, ADP, EA, ADER, and ADOFEP, accepted a proposal for a 5% total wage increase, to be implemented in two stages: 3.4% in January and 1.6% in July. This decision has led these groups to suspend planned strike actions.
Conversely, four other unions—OTEP-SN, OTEP-A, UNE, and MAS-MP-SN—rejected the offer, maintaining a demand for an 8% increase. These organizations have confirmed a national strike for September 17 and 18, warning that protests could extend through September 22 and 23 if no alternative is presented.
