Paraguayan film wins award at Bonito CineSur

The Paraguayan feature film “¿Quién Mató a Narciso?” directed by Marcelo Martinessi and based on a book about the 1959 murder of radio host Bernardo Aranda received the Best South‑American Feature award at the Bonito CineSur festival in Bonito, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The film, which links the murder to the repressive Stroessner military regime, was highlighted by lead actor Diro Romero as a reminder of unresolved crimes from that dictatorship.

Subsequent coverage added that the Paraguayan Truth and Justice Commission sees the case as possibly orchestrated by the Stroessner regime and noted the victim’s identity as a gay rock‑and‑roll enthusiast. The festival, running from late July to early August, also honored Colombian director Alejandro Calderón with multiple trophies and showcased other South‑American productions, underscoring its role in promoting regional cinema and preserving memory of past dictatorships.
