Paraná maritime and aquatic safety initiatives
Overview
The Paraná Military Firefighters Corps has taken steps to enhance aquatic safety and emergency response capabilities within the state. In late September, the department inaugurated the Maritime Firefighters Battalion (BBMMar) in Guaratuba. This specialized unit is tasked with prevention, searches, and aquatic rescues across various coastal and inland environments, including beaches, rivers, ports, and islands, utilizing specialized personnel and watercraft.
Following this structural expansion, the department opened a selection process in October for its Volunteer Civil Lifeguard course. Aimed at preparing for the 2026/2027 season, the program offers 120 vacancies for training in both open ocean and inland waters across five municipalities: Matinhos, Guaratuba, Foz do Iguaçu, Marechal Cândido Rondon, and Umuarama.
