Parisian priest sexual abuse investigation

Overview

An 81-year-old priest in Paris has been placed under formal investigation following allegations of repeated rape and sexual assault of a minor. The victim, who is now in their 40s, reported that the abuse began when they were 12 years old during scout camps and World Youth Day events, and allegedly continued into their adulthood until 2015.

Four adult victims have reported similar incidents. While some reports involve periods between 1979 and 1986 that are now legally expired, the current judicial inquiry focuses on non-expired allegations.

The Diocese of Paris has prohibited the priest from exercising his ministry or contacting minors since October 2024, following previous restrictions placed on him between 2018 and 2020. A judge has placed the priest under judicial control, which includes a ban on contacting individuals he may have known while they were minors.
