Athletes Andriana Pontiotis and Giota Vlachaki were scheduled to compete in the 5th Patras Night Half Marathon ‘Fanis Tsimigatos’ on October 10, 2026. The event, organized by the Municipality of Patras in collaboration with Kyros Patras and SEGAS, features results certified by World Athletics. Prior to the event, Vlachaki, a former Rio 2016 Olympian and national champion, expressed high praise for the course and organization, stating her goal was to finish first with a strong time to prepare for the Greek Championships. Pontiotis, a 22-year-old Panhellenic champion, intended to use the 5,000m event to test her endurance following a transition from hurdles. The marathon took place with a record participation of approximately 3,200 runners. Dedicated to the memory of runner Fanis Tsimigatos, the competition included three distances: a 5,000-meter race for specific age groups, a 21.097-kilometer night half marathon, and a 1,000-meter race for primary school students and persons with disabilities. The certified course started and ended at Georgiou Square, utilizing the city’s coastal zone and central streets. In preparation for the race, the Achaia Police Directorate announced extensive traffic restrictions and parking prohibitions to ensure athlete safety. Significant road closures and public transport modifications were scheduled to occur between 16:00 and 21:30. Following the competition, results were recorded for the various categories. In the 21.1 km half marathon, Charalampos Pitsiolis of GAS Ilissos won the men's category with a time of 1:07:27, while Eirini Tsoupaki of G.S. Amarousiou took first place in the women's category with a time of 1:17:21. In the 5 km race, Andreas Georgiou won the men's division in 14:59, and Iouliana Roussou won the women's division in 17:10.
