The Finnish defense company Patria has completed the assembly of the first F135 engine for the Finnish Air Force’s F-35A fleet. This milestone occurred at Patria’s new facility in Linnavuori, Nokia. Following an agreement with Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business, Patria is tasked with the assembly, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of these engines. These operations are scheduled to continue through 2030 to support the entire lifecycle of Finland’s F-35A aircraft. The domestic capability is intended to strengthen Finland’s security of supply and foster cooperation between the Finnish and US defense industries. Finland has ordered 64 F-35A fighters, with the fighters from Lockheed Martin. The first aircraft expected are scheduled to arrive at the Lapland Air Wing in Rovaniemi during the autumn of 2026. This expansion of the Finnish Air Force is intended to enhance military deterrence along the border with Russia and bolster Finland’s role within NATO following its 2023 accession.
