On August 28, GM Defense completed its first delivery of precision-fabricated metal castings used for the outer housing of Patriot PAC-3 MSE interceptor missiles. This delivery occurred just 22 days after the manufacturing agreement was signed on August 6, a timeline Lockheed Martin noted is significantly faster than the typical process which can take “months or even years.”

This collaboration is part of a broader effort to bolster the U.S. defense industrial base and meet surging global demand driven by conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. To support this, Lockheed Martin is investing between $8 billion and $9 billion to expand production capacity for several weapon systems, including the PAC-3 MSE, Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), and Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM). This expansion involves increasing production and warehousing footprints by nearly 50% across more than 20 sites in the U.S., with specific investments targeting facilities in Camden, Arkansas, and Troy, Alabama. To address strategic inventory shortfalls, the Pentagon has requested that Lockheed Martin more than triple its production of Patriot missiles, aiming for a rate of over 2,000 interceptors per year by the end of 2030.
