PCC criminal organization activity in Chile

Overview

Chilean authorities have conducted operations to dismantle the presence of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), a major Brazilian criminal organization, within Chile.

Initial investigations under ‘Operación Sintonía 1533’ led to the arrest of seven suspected members following raids on homes and correctional facilities. During these proceedings, investigators seized weapons and cocaine. Subprefect Pablo Godoy noted that the group aimed to establish itself in Chile by recruiting individuals with significant criminal records to facilitate drug, arms, and human trafficking.

The judicial process has since resulted in the formalization of 19 individuals linked to what is described as the first PCC cell in the country. Following a process conducted by the Metropolitan South Regional Prosecutor's Office, nine of these individuals were placed in pretrial detention, while the remaining 10 were already in custody due to previous criminal convictions or precautionary measures.

The investigation involved coordination between the Investigative Police (PDI) and international partners, including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Intelligence gathered from the triple border region of Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina also played a critical role, specifically leading to the seizure of war rifles intended for Brazil via Paraguay.
