Overview

Following a fatal accident on August 15 that killed six people, including two members of the National Congress, the Paraguayan Ministry of Public Works and Communications addressed significant infrastructure delays and safety concerns at the Pedrozo crossing on Route PY02.

Minister Claudia Centurión informed the Senate that project delays were largely due to legal disputes regarding 42 land expropriation files that required judicial intervention. In response to safety issues, the Ministry and concessionaire Rutas del Este began constructing acceleration and deceleration lanes to improve traffic flow, following the permanent removal of a traffic light and the closure of the central opening at km 47.2.
