Pension fund management controversies

Overview

The PIOM Fund in North Macedonia issued a statement denying insolvency claims and asserting that pension payments are secure due to state guarantees. Management noted systemic anomalies, such as unpaid contributions, and indicated that discussions regarding reforms are ongoing with the Ministry of Social Policy, Demography and Youth.

In Serbia, the High Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade ordered a police investigation into the Republic Fund for Pension and Disability Insurance (PIO Fund). Criminal complaints were filed against Director Relja Ognjenović and others for suspected abuse of office and the unauthorized destruction of official documents. While trade unions allege that documents were being shredded to hide compromising evidence, the PIO Fund maintains that document destruction is a standard procedure conducted according to ISO standards to protect personal data.
