New details from the investigation highlight the scale of the munitions shortage. Reports from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) indicate that Patriot PAC-3 MSE interceptor stockpiles have decreased by 65 percent since late February, while THAAD interceptor stocks fell from 452 to 278 missiles. Investigators are exploring whether a foreign intelligence asset is responsible for the disclosures due to the highly restricted nature of the data. While the polygraph testing of high-ranking military officers and civilian officials is described as highly unusual, General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was reportedly excluded from the testing process.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell stated that the department takes all leaks of classified national security information “extremely seriously” and is conducting investigations to ensure the security of U.S. forces worldwide. Meanwhile, President Trump has simultaneously denied reports of strategic weapons shortages.
