Peru F-16 Block 70 fighter jet acquisition
Overview
The Peruvian Air Force is moving forward with plans to equip its new F-16C/D Block 70 fighter jets with the Viper Shield electronic warfare system. Confirmed by L3Harris Technologies, the system was developed alongside Lockheed Martin and the United States Air Force to detect and neutralize electronic threats such as enemy radars and missile guidance systems.
The Viper Shield is a software-based, modular system that can be integrated directly into the aircraft or used via an external pod. This configuration is intended to reduce long-term maintenance and lifecycle costs while allowing for updates against evolving electromagnetic threats. This development is part of a broader 2 billion USD investment program to restore Peru’s aerospace control and precision capabilities, following an initial contract for 12 F-16C/D aircraft.
