Peru Nazca Lines plane crash

Entities: Jorge Andrade · Keiko Fujimori · Nazca Lines · Pisco Airport · Aerodiana

Overview

A Cessna 208 B Grand Caravan operated by Aerodiana crashed near Pueblo Viejo on 1 August 2026 while conducting a sightseeing tour of the UNESCO‑listed Nazca Lines. All 13 occupants – eleven foreign tourists (seven Italians, two Germans, two Spaniards) and two Peruvian crew members – were killed. Police Major Jorge Andrade confirmed the wreckage was engulfed in fire, leaving no survivors.

President Keiko Fujimori expressed condolences and said the transport ministry was reviewing a possible temporary suspension of tourist flights from the Nazca aerodrome. The aircraft had departed Pisco airport for a scenic flight, lost contact shortly after take‑off and came down in a field about 6 km from the archaeological site. Authorities have opened a technical investigation, examining weather conditions, strong winds reported before the crash, and a possible technical failure. Italy, Spain and Germany are cooperating with Peruvian authorities on victim identification and repatriation.

The accident follows earlier crashes over the Nazca Lines in 2022 and 2010, intensifying scrutiny of tourism‑flight safety standards in the region. Officials continue to assess whether to suspend flights from the Pisco‑Nazca airport pending the investigation’s findings.
