Peru Nazca tourist plane crash

Entities: Nazca Lines · Aerodiana · Peru · Massimo Angelucci · Jorge Andrade

Overview

On 1 August 2026 a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan operated by Aerodiana departed Pisco for a sightseeing tour of the UNESCO‑listed Nazca Lines. About an hour after take‑off the crew reported an emergency and the aircraft disappeared from radar, later crashing near Pueblo Viejo and killing all 13 occupants – eleven foreign tourists (seven Italians from the Angelucci and Gianturco families, two Germans, two Spaniards) and two Peruvian crew members.

Peruvian authorities, through the DGAC, opened a technical investigation, examining strong winds, a recent sandstorm, possible mechanical failure, human error or structural issues. The two Spanish victims were identified as Alfredo Avilés Muñoyerro and Ana Isabel Sánchez Muñoz. Diplomatic representatives from Italy, Spain and Germany were notified, and officials from the affected countries expressed condolences.

President Keiko Fujimori considered suspending tourist flights from Pisco. Aerodiana pledged full cooperation with the inquiry. The victims’ bodies were taken to Ica for autopsies before repatriation, prompting renewed scrutiny of safety standards for tourist flights over the Nazca Lines.
