Pesticide poisoning deaths in Telangana

Police in Telangana have investigated two separate incidents involving deaths caused by pesticide ingestion.

In the first case, authorities arrested 38-year-old lecturer Jetty Naveen Kumar in connection with the death of 20-year-old engineering student Thandra Akshitarani. While the death was initially treated as a suicide, investigators now allege Akshitarani was forced to consume pesticide and coerced into writing a note to stage her death. The motive is reportedly linked to a grudge held by Kumar after the student distanced herself from him. A second individual, Bommakanthi Ravikumar, was also arrested following allegations of sexual assault.

In a separate incident in the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, police arrested three individuals, including a woman, for the alleged murder of Pendela Sampat. Authorities state the victim was killed after being given alcohol laced with pesticide. The suspects, identified as the victim’s wife Pendela Sumlata, Ummalla Srikanth, and Poludasari Tarun, allegedly conspired to commit the crime due to a suspected extramarital affair. Investigators believe the suspects attempted to stage the murder as a suicide by spreading pesticide on the victim’s clothes and floor.
