Petrobras offshore fleet renewal via Starnav Elektra

Overview

The Starnav Elektra, a hybrid platform supply vessel (PSV) built in Brazil, was officially christened in Rio de Janeiro to support Petrobras offshore operations. The vessel was constructed at the Detroit Shipyard in Itajaí and is the first of a planned series of up to ten hybrid ships, including six PSVs and four oil spill response vessels, funded through agreements involving the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES).

Following its christening, the 5,500-dwt vessel was delivered for a long-term charter with Petrobras. The ship utilizes a 1,322 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery system located on the main deck to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. This hybrid configuration is designed to meet dynamic positioning class 2 requirements and is compatible with renewable fuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).
