Philippine Navy offshore patrol vessel acquisition
Overview
The Philippine Navy is undergoing a modernization effort through the acquisition of six Rajah Sulayman-class Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) from South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
In October 2026, the third vessel in the series, the BRP Rajah Humabon (PS22), was launched at a shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. The 94-meter, 2,400-ton ship is equipped with a 76mm main naval gun, a 30mm secondary gun, surveillance radar, and electro-optical tracking equipment. The vessel is scheduled for official delivery to the Philippine Navy by February 2027.
The BRP Rajah Humabon follows the BRP Rajah Sulayman and BRP Rajah Lakandula, which have already entered service. The remaining three vessels in the contract—to be named Sultan Kudarat, Datu Marikudo, and Datu Sikatuna—are expected to be delivered through 2028 to enhance maritime surveillance and territorial defense capabilities.
