PIT-CNT 60th anniversary in Uruguay

Overview

The PIT-CNT, Uruguay’s central labor union, is marking the 60th anniversary of its unification. Celebrations began with various activities, including a special performance of the play ‘El teatro’ at the Teatro Solís.

Following the anniversary of the union’s founding on October 1, the Uruguayan Senate held a ceremony to honor the National Convention of Workers (CNT). The event, convened by former SUNCA general secretary Oscar Andrade, was attended by political leaders, union officials, and government ministers. During the session, Senator Andrade reflected on the historical roots of the labor movement, describing the CNT’s foundation as a legacy of “a century of struggle, sacrifice, and ethical militancy.”
