Poland has implemented several security measures to address regional geopolitical tensions and border stability through late 2026 and into early 2027. Prime Minister Donald Tusk extended various anti-terrorism security alert levels through November 30, 2026. This includes the nationwide BRAVO alert level for general security and energy infrastructure, as well as the BRAVO-CRP level for cyberspace threats. Additionally, a higher CHARLIE alert level applies to specific railway lines managed by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. and PKP Linia Hutnicza Szerokotorowa Sp. z o.o. These measures, described as preventive responses to hybrid threats, involve increased patrols by the Police, Border Guard, and Military Gendarmerie. Regarding border stability, the Polish government has expanded its military support for the Border Guard. Following decisions by President Karol Nawrocki and the Minister of National Defence, the military missions ‘Bezpieczny Zachód’ (Safe West) and ‘Bezpieczne Podlasie’ (Safe Podlasie) have been extended from October 2, 2026, until March 30, 2027. These operations aim to address migratory pressure and illegal border crossings along the borders with Germany, Lithuania, and Belarus. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński announced the extension of border controls with Germany and Lithuania until March 30, 2027. Originally implemented on July 7, 2025, these controls have seen authorities inspect approximately 4.5 million people and 2.3 million vehicles. On the Lithuanian border, officials have denied entry to about 1,300 people, while approximately 1,200 people have been denied entry at the German border. Germany has also extended its own border controls, including those at the Polish border, until March 15, 2027. The Ministry of the Interior and Administration noted that the extension is necessary due to persistent migration pressures from the east via the Baltic states and the risk of secondary migration movements from the German direction.
