Poland vehicle and automotive regulations
Overview
The Polish government is introducing several regulatory changes affecting the automotive sector. The Ministry of Infrastructure has proposed a draft requiring mandatory first aid kits in new vehicles registered after April 31, 2027, to avoid costs for existing owners.
Additionally, new European Union Anti-Money Laundering Regulations scheduled for July 10, 2027, will impact high-value vehicle sales. For motor vehicles priced above 250,000 euros, sellers must perform full Customer Due Diligence. Cash payment limits will also be enforced, requiring transactions exceeding 10,000 euros to be completed via bank transfer or card, while transactions between 3,000 and 10,000 euros involving cash will trigger verification procedures for business entities.
Furthermore, the government is moving to mandate that vehicles registered outside the European Union, such as those from Ukraine, undergo registration and technical inspections in Poland if they remain in the country for more than one year. Under this proposal, vehicles staying longer than a year must be re-registered and insured. For foreign nationals establishing permanent residence, the registration deadline would be 30 days. Non-compliance may lead to the seizure of foreign registration documents and the removal of vehicles from the road.
