Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar is expanding and updating its product lineup. The company has officially launched the Polestar 4 SUV, a more practical variant of its electric performance coupé. While maintaining the core design language, this SUV features a more upright roofline and a redesigned rear section that includes a traditional rear window and wiper, replacing the digital rearview mirror used in the coupé version. Designed for increased utility, the Polestar 4 offers up to 1,680 litres of cargo capacity with rear seats folded, a 100 kg capacity roof rail, and 2.5 cm of additional rear headroom. Technological updates include Google Gemini AI integration and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, which allows the battery to power external devices up to 3.3 kW. The vehicle also features a new ‘Camping Mode’. Production has commenced at the Renault-Geely plant in Busan, South Korea, utilizing the SEA platform. The model features a 100-kWh battery with two powertrain options: a rear-motor version offering up to 630 km (WLTP) range, and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version providing 400 kW of power and up to 600 km of range. First deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. Technical overhauls continue for other models, specifically the Polestar 3. The Polestar 3 Rear Motor 800V version focuses on efficiency and rapid charging, utilizing a 92 kWh battery and 800V fast-charging technology. Additionally, reports suggest a significant technical overhaul for the next generation of the Polestar 2, potentially shifting to a dedicated electric vehicle platform featuring 800-volt technology. To preview future models and define its long-term design language, Polestar has unveiled the ‘Formula 2030’ concept car. Led by Head of Design Philipp Römers, the project emphasizes a ‘bold evolution’ of Scandinavian design, such as the ‘Dual Blade’ headlights, while incorporating new materials and sustainable practices.
