Police encounters in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh

Police in the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh have conducted several encounters with suspected criminals, resulting in arrests and injuries.

In late September, authorities intercepted a suspect, Abdul Salam, near the Chikaniya Canal during a blockade intended to stop theft on routes toward the Nepal border. Following an exchange of fire, the suspect sustained a gunshot wound and was apprehended. He reportedly confessed to smuggling stolen motorcycles into Nepal.

By mid-October, police operations expanded to include multiple encounters. In one instance near Khairi Ghat, a joint team from the Special Operations Group and local police intercepted suspects, resulting in a wounded individual identified as Sambhari, a person with over three dozen criminal cases. Police recovered an illegal pistol, ammunition, stolen jewelry, and cash. In a separate incident under the Baundi police station jurisdiction, two suspects, Jabir and Naseem, were wounded during exchanges of fire or pursuits. Authorities continue to search for several accomplices who fled these encounters.
