Police misconduct protests spread in Mexico

By late August, reports of misconduct and abuse of power expanded to other regions. In San Andrés Cholula, municipal transit officers were suspended following an armed pursuit and shots fired during a confrontation with a couple, leading to a formal investigation into alleged extortion. In Yucatán, residents of Sitilpech demanded accountability after municipal police reportedly assaulted a woman and other citizens while attempting to mediate a private dispute.

Additionally, in Quintana Roo, the Institute of Mobility (Imoveqroo) opened an investigation into a public transport driver in Cancún after a viral video showed the operator using classist insults and refusing to return change. These incidents illustrate a widening pattern of alleged municipal police and service provider misconduct across multiple Mexican states and an escalating public push for transparency and reform.
