Police officer involvement in robberies in Argentina

In late October 2026, two separate incidents in Argentina involved police officers responding to attempted robberies.

In Las Heras, an officer working as a driver for the Maxim ride-hailing platform was intercepted by criminals near the 30 de Octubre neighborhood. During the physical assault, the officer used his service weapon, resulting in an exchange of gunfire that left one suspect seriously injured. Homicide Prosecutor Claudia Alejandra Ríos is leading the investigation into the confrontation.

In La Plata, an off-duty female officer of the Buenos Aires Provincial Police was intercepted by two individuals on a motorcycle in the Barrio Aeropuerto area. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Aarón Miqueas Alejandro Calace, allegedly used a firearm against the officer in an attempt to steal her motorcycle. The officer responded with her service weapon, fatally wounding Calace.

A female accomplice reportedly fled the scene on the motorcycle and took the weapon used by Calace. Calace had a recent criminal record and had been released from Magdalena prison in July. Prosecutor Gonzalo Petit Bosnic is leading the judicial investigation, while the Internal Affairs of the Buenos Aires Police has initiated administrative proceedings. The officer has not been detained as the incident is being treated as self-defense.
