Polish emigration and residential trends

Overview

Recent data and surveys highlight trends regarding Polish emigration and living preferences. A study conducted in cooperation with the newspaper Bild ranked Panama as the top destination for expatriates, followed by Mexico and Thailand; Poland placed 17th in this ranking. The survey noted that 90% of expats in Panama find their income sufficient for a comfortable life.

Regarding domestic preferences, the "To my. Lokalnie 2026" survey of 4,081 adults indicates a growing desire for peace, green space, and reduced urban noise. If cost and work were not constraints, only 8% of respondents would choose a city center, while 19% preferred quiet districts of large cities, 17% preferred the countryside, and 12% desired seaside locations. Only 5% expressed a desire to move abroad.

Statistical data from Statistics Poland (GUS) shows that by the end of 2024, approximately 1.499 million Polish permanent residents were living abroad temporarily, having resided outside the country for at least 12 months. This reflects an increase of 22,000 individuals compared to the previous year.
