Polish entrepreneur contribution holiday program

Overview

The Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has reported that entrepreneurs have received nearly 4.5 billion PLN in support through a contribution holidays program. Since the program began on November 1, 2024, approximately 3.45 million applications have been submitted, with 3.301 million resulting in full or partial exemptions from social security contributions.

The relief program allows business owners to reduce operating costs by opting out of certain payments—including pension, disability, accident, and voluntary sickness insurance—for one month during 2024, 2025, and 2026. This mechanism is designed to maintain social insurance continuity while the state budget finances the contributions. However, the exemption does not cover health insurance or contributions paid on behalf of employees.

Hanna Mojsiuk, president of the Northern Chamber of Commerce in Szczecin, noted that while the support helps manage months with lower turnover, it represents only a small fraction of the broader needs facing small and medium-sized enterprises.
