Polish labor market trends and regulations

Overview

The Polish labor landscape is characterized by evolving employee expectations regarding work-life balance and strict legal requirements for employers.

Recent trends indicate that Polish organizations are increasingly prioritizing boundaries between professional and private life. Approximately 82% of surveyed top employers discourage checking work emails outside of business hours, which is 22 percentage points higher than the global average. Furthermore, 66% of these employers allow staff to decide their own work hours and locations. While flexible working hours have become more desirable than remote work for 39% of workers, a gap remains in enforcing a ‘vacation embargo’ to prevent contact during time off.

In addition to these cultural shifts, Polish labor regulations mandate specific employer obligations. Employers are legally required to issue an employment certificate to employees upon the termination of both fixed-term and indefinite-term contracts. Failure to provide these documents, or providing erroneous ones, can lead to legal action and claims for damages if the error results in financial loss for the employee.
