Overview

In late July 2026, local remembrance walks were held in Brzesko and Żabno. The Brzesko walk highlighted historic streets, a former Auschwitz prisoner’s uniform and pre‑war architecture, while Żabno’s programme marked the 1944 Żabno Uprising with a ceremony and lecture.

A week later, attention turned to broader resistance actions. Historian Wiesław Happ released a book on the 1943 Armia Krajowa “Pensjonat” prison‑break in Jasło, documenting the liberation of about 180 inmates. In Kielce, a ceremony commemorated the 1945 night raid led by Anton Hed (“Szary”) that freed several hundred detainees from the UB prison. Together, the events illustrate ongoing efforts across Poland to honor and publicise World War II and early post‑war resistance operations.
