Political convoy attack in Nagaon, Assam

During an election campaign in the Nagaon district of Assam, a convoy carrying Congress leaders—including MP Gaurav Gogoi and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel—was attacked in the Barma area of the Samaguri segment.

Reports indicate that protesters displayed black flags and shouted slogans before pelting the vehicles with stones and bottles. Bhupesh Baghel alleged that acid was thrown at his vehicle, though he stated the leaders remained safe due to closed windows. The incident resulted in broken vehicle windows and injuries to several individuals, including AICC Secretary Manoj Chauhan and two journalists, Bhaskar Das and Gulzar Hussain.

Congress leaders have accused supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of involvement, noting that some motorcyclists following the convoy were allegedly carrying BJP flags. In response to the violence, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has appealed to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to remove the Nagaon District Commissioner from election duties, citing a loss of confidence in the neutrality of local election machinery. Formal complaints have been lodged at the Nagaon Sadar Police Station.
