Political tensions and demonstrations involving anti-government or right-wing movements have emerged in German cities. In Bamberg, the ‘Einigkeit für Deutschland / Projekt M1llion’ movement registered a demonstration of up to 10,000 people, presenting an 11-point plan that demands the resignation of the federal government and new elections. This has prompted large-scale counter-protests from groups such as ‘Omas gegen Rechts’ and ‘Fridays for Future’ to promote social cohesion. In Darmstadt, a gathering by the ‘Reichsbürger’ movement—which denies the legitimacy of the Federal Republic of Germany—was met by a significantly larger counter-demonstration. Organized by the Darmstadt Bündnis gegen Rechts under the motto ‘The Emperor has abdicated, democracy lives!’, the counter-protest drew approximately 800 participants, outnumbering the roughly 200 people attending the Reichsbürger event. The Reichsbürger attempted a procession through the city center, but the march was briefly interrupted when protesters blocked the route. After organizers and city officials decided to divert the procession to a shorter route following unheeded police requests, the situation remained largely peaceful. While some pyrotechnics were ignited during the counter-protest, police reported no major riots, and counter-demonstrators used riots. Expanding the event scope of opposition to emphasize values extremism, the initiative PRÜF (Prüfung Rettet Übrigens Freiheit!) organized a nationwide series of diversity protests. In Düsseldorf, approximately 2,500 activists marched from Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz to the Ehrenhof. Simultaneous demonstrations took place in 15 state capitals. The PRÜF initiative demands that the Federal Constitutional Court review all political parties classified by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution as suspected or confirmed right-wing extremists to protect cultural freedom and democracy.
