Political realignment and legislative shifts in Misiones

Political restructuring in Misiones, Argentina, continues to evolve following the rupture between Governor Hugo Passalacqua and leader Carlos Rovira. This split has influenced both regional popularity and national legislative dynamics.

In the National Chamber of Deputies, a new parliamentary group is being formed to replace the defunct Innovación Federal. Led by former Misiones Governor Oscar Herrera Ahuad, the group includes four Misiones deputies (Herrera Ahuad, Alberto Arrúa, Yamila Ruiz, and Daniel Vancsik) and three from Salta. The bloc aims to strengthen provincial negotiation power regarding taxes, infrastructure, energy, and regional economies, with potential expansion to ten members through the inclusion of deputies from Formosa and San Luis.

At the provincial level, the rift has manifested in direct confrontations within the Misiones Legislature. Juan José Szychowski, head of the Passalacqua-aligned ‘Movimiento Por lo que Viene’ bloc, has demanded a reorganization of seating to reflect the new political composition. Szychowski has also alleged that security personnel and staff associated with Rovira have restricted his bloc’s movement within the legislative building. Rovira has reportedly refused to modify his seating position.

Additionally, legislator Ramón Amarilla has set conditions for potential cooperation with the Radical Civic Union (UCR), expressing a desire to lead a provincial formula while warning party leadership against political abandonment, stating, “Don’t lead me to the precipice and then let me go.”

These developments occur alongside ongoing business connections to the state, such as the Cale Group led by Augusto Marini, and efforts by the PJ Federal to build a national political alternative for 2027 through dialogue with Passalacqua.
