Polymarket sports market expansion
Overview
Polymarket has expanded its sports-related offerings through new media partnerships and technical product launches. In early August, the platform secured an exclusive agreement with Tennis Data Innovations to become the Official Prediction Market Provider for the ATP Tour. This deal allows Polymarket to stream approximately 20,000 ATP and ATP Challenger Tour matches annually to U.S. users, integrating live video with prediction-market trading supported by real-time data from Sportradar.
Following this, Polymarket US launched an API-only beta for multi-leg sports contracts, termed ‘Combinatoric Athletic Outcome Contracts’. These parlay-style contracts allow users to trade outcomes involving between two and 10 legs, requiring all legs to be successful for a payout. During the initial beta phase, the product recorded 16,173 trades, generating $7.4 million in volume and approximately $928,093 in stakes.
By August 24, Polymarket US officially rolled out these ‘Combos’ to its general user base, moving beyond the restricted API beta. This public release triggered a rapid surge in activity; trading volume for these products reached approximately $31.4 million, accounting for 21.6% of all Polymarket US trading in the 24-hour period ending August 24. This marks a significant increase from the August 16 beta period, when combo volume represented only 1.67% of total exchange volume. The expansion into multi-leg trading positions the platform to compete more aggressively with competitors like Kalshi. The product has been certified for trading through a federal regulatory framework involving the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
