Porsche strategic restructuring and EV market shifts

Porsche is implementing a long-term strategic overhaul to address declining revenue and sales. CEO Michael Leiters introduced the ‘Sportwagenschmiede 2035’ strategy, which focuses on cost reduction, the elimination of approximately 5,000 jobs, and the introduction of new models. This includes a new internal-combustion SUV and a sports car positioned above the 911. Regarding electric vehicles, the company plans to reduce the number of Taycan variants to lower complexity, noting that the Taycan may eventually be replaced by an electric Panamera.

Market challenges for electric models have become evident in specific regions. In Poland, slow turnover for the all-electric Macan has led to significant price reductions, with one 2024 model seeing a price cut of over 90,000 PLN. This sluggish demand is attributed to high costs and consumer concerns regarding the rapid depreciation of used electric vehicles. In response to market shifts, Porsche has updated the Macan’s standard equipment for the new model year, including enhanced charging capabilities and improved driver assistance features.
