The 2026 summer festival season in Portugal and surrounding regions featured a diverse array of culinary, religious, and musical events. In late July and early August, Torrão hosted the Feira de Agosto (31 July–2 August), while the parish of Matamá in Galicia celebrated the feast of Nosa Señora das Neves (2–5 August) with traditional dances and music. Culinary heritage was a central theme, with Águeda hosting the “Do Mar à Terra – Festival da Sardinha” (7–10 ~~August)~~ August), and Olhão’s Real Marina Hotel & Spa holding the Festival do Marisco (10–15 August). In Abrantes, the Festa do Futuro returned to Souto under the theme “Água, Fonte de Festa” to explore water resources and climate impacts. August also saw the 20th-anniversary Bons Sons festival in Cem Soldos (6–9 August), the Sete Sóis Sete Luas festival (6–8 August), and the musical show “A Taberna” in Elvas (7–8 August). Other notable events included Valhelhas’ Festival do Peixe do Rio (7–9 August), Seixal’s Festas Populares de Amora (12–16 August), and the 93rd annual Festas de Verão in Carreira do Mato (21–24 August). As the season progressed, Atalaia prepared for the Festa Grande in honor of Nossa Senhora da Atalaia (28–31 August), a 500-year-old pilgrimage involving five ‘círios’ from various communities. In the Alcácer do Sal region, the Artes & Caça event in Casebres (29–30 August) focused on rural traditions, while Penafiel hosted Brazilian artist MC Kevinho at the AGRIVAL event. Looking toward September, Tomar will host the Círio de Nossa Senhora da Piedade (12–13 September), and Santarém will hold the 65th Festival Celestino Graça (1–6 September). The latter, organized by the Grupo Académico de Danças Ribatejanas, aims to showcase musical instruments through the ‘Sons Autóctones – Sons da Memória’ project while addressing concerns regarding public investment in ethnographic heritage.
