Poás Volcano eruption in Costa Rica

Overview

Poás Volcano in Costa Rica experienced a high-energy eruption that ejected debris and incandescent materials approximately 600 meters from the crater. The event caused significant disturbances to the crater lake.

In response to increased seismic activity, eruptions, and gas emissions, the National Commission for Risk Prevention and Emergency Attention (CNE) declared a Green Alert for the Poás Volcano National Park. To protect visitors, the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) implemented new safety regulations, including mandatory safety helmets on certain trails and a 50% reduction in daily visitor capacity.
