Prague Stock Exchange shows signs of recovery
Overview
The Prague Stock Exchange has transitioned from a period of significant volatility toward signs of recovery. While the PX index recently struggled to overcome mid-week losses, it has since demonstrated stronger momentum, recording its strongest weekly gain since April.
The benchmark PX index rose 3.13% to close at 2,657.34 points, rebounding after two consecutive weeks of losses. This growth was driven largely by the defense sector and banking stocks. Defense group CSG emerged as the week’s top performer, climbing 10.56% to CZK 379.10. Additionally, Vienna Insurance Group (VIG) saw a 6.01% increase following an improved full-year earnings outlook.
The financial sector, previously a primary driver of instability due to political rhetoric regarding special taxes, continues to show signs of reversal. Banking shares, including Moneta Money Bank and Komerční banka, along with energy company ČEZ, contributed to the market's upward movement.
These gains occur despite ongoing challenges such as rising interest rates, high oil prices, and geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East. Reflecting broader trends, the Czech investor index CII750 has grown by 9.22% since the beginning of the year, with its equity component rising by 1.39% in the third quarter.
