Premiere of Bloodsport: After Helen of Troy

Overview

The play ‘Bloodsport: After Helen of Troy’, written by Ava Pickett and directed by Lisa Spirling, is scheduled for its world premiere at Theatre Royal Stratford East, with performances running from September 3 through October 10.

Reimagining the aftermath of the Trojan War within a modern-day Essex setting, the production follows Helen, played by Michelle Dockery, as she returns to her husband Marcus. The narrative explores how her return triggers a violent anti-immigrant movement led by Mario, an ally of her husband. The play utilizes Essex argot to examine themes of misogyny, patriarchal control, and the intersection of historical myth with contemporary social and political tensions.
