COHEP noted that transparency will be a critical factor in the MCC Board of Directors’ final decision regarding fund allocation. Amidst these developments, President Nasry Asfura reiterated his administration’s stance on the utility, explicitly denying rumors of privatization and maintaining that the goal is to recover the state enterprise despite its 118 billion lempira debt. By September 8, 2026, experts indicated that the Energy Justice Law may take at least two years to provide relief from frequent power outages, with visible improvements potentially delayed until 2028. The reform aims to modernize obsolete infrastructure and implement smart meters, but the ENEE continues to face massive financial instability, with historical debt now estimated to exceed 120 billion lempiras and daily losses reaching approximately 1.5 million dollars.
