Presidents Cup: International Team takes commanding lead

Overview

The 2026 Presidents Cup at Medina Country Club in Chicago has seen significant momentum shifts between the United States and the International Team. Following an opening day where the United States held a 3-2 lead, the International Team surged ahead after a Friday sweep of the foursomes session—the first time the squad has swept a session on American soil.

By the third day of competition, the International Team held a 7-3 lead. The pairing of Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim continued their dominant form, securing a 2-and-1 victory over Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark. This win marked the duo’s third consecutive victory of the week, following wins in the Thursday and Friday foursomes matches. Morikawa expressed visible frustration following the Saturday four-ball loss, as the American pair surrendered an early two-hole lead.

Amidst the tournament, International player Tom Kim is scheduled to depart on Sunday afternoon to compete in the Asian Games in Japan. Kim, who has won three of his four matches this week, is pursuing a gold medal in the men’s or team competition. Under South Korean law, securing a gold medal at the Asian Games would grant Kim an exemption from mandatory military service.

Despite the substantial advantage, International Team Captain Geoff Ogilvy cautioned that the leaderboard can change quickly in this format, as 15.5 points are required to win the Cup.
