Preventive detention cases in Mexico

On 22 July, a former federal employee from Querétaro, Jorge Iván N, was placed in preventive detention after authorities linked him to an aggravated kidnapping and robbery in the municipality of Colón. Joint operations involving multiple federal and state agencies led to his arrest in Mexico City, and a judge set a three‑month period for further investigation, formally connecting eight individuals to the case.

A week later, on 28 July, a judge in San Juan del Río ordered preventive detention for Mario N, who was accused of threatening his wife with a firearm on two occasions in early July. The weapon was seized, and the prosecutor emphasized the presumption of innocence pending trial. The judge set a one‑month investigation period while maintaining the detention.

Both incidents illustrate the use of preventive detention by Mexican authorities as an immediate measure in distinct criminal matters—one involving organized kidnapping and the other domestic violence.
