Preventive health screening in Italy

Italian health authorities have continued to broaden preventive‑screening recommendations. After urging all adults to obtain an annual comprehensive blood panel and expanding cardiac check‑ups to include ECG, echocardiography, Holter monitoring, stress testing and coronary CT angiography, officials now stress even more detailed cardiac assessments.

Cardiologists reiterated that heart disease often remains silent until advanced stages and advocated full cardiology visits that combine basic ECG with echocardiograms, Holter and blood‑pressure monitoring, stress tests and advanced imaging. Costs range from €20‑40 for a single ECG to €100‑200 for an echocardiogram or stress test, with package pricing offered in many clinics. Early symptoms such as unusual fatigue, shortness of breath or mild chest discomfort are highlighted as warning signs that can prompt timely intervention.

At the community level, new programs aim to bring screening directly to patients. The Villa dei Pini clinic (Gruppo Kos) in Civitanova now provides home‑diagnostic services—including blood draws, ECGs, cardiac and blood‑pressure Holter monitoring, and forthcoming radiography—for the elderly and mobility‑limited. In Naples, the EMOCAMP campaign offers free, walk‑in blood‑disorder screening for hemoglobinopathies using HPLC technology, supported by the regional health authority, the university hospital and the European ERN Eurobloodnet network. Both initiatives reflect a coordinated push to increase early detection of chronic conditions and to make preventive care more accessible across Italy.
